Review of Pig (2021) by Calebcoomer — 23 Aug 2021
Turns the genre conventions around in a surprising, fresh way. Where you expect violence you are met with introspective dialogue about the meaning of creation and the value of meaningful relationships with others and ourselves.
While at times this approach feels futile and generates a sense of hopelessness, it never feels unintentional or naive. The film itself is a reflection of the complicated ideas explored within the narrative and by the end you can't help but feel like Cage's character brought on a positive change to those he encountered vice the expected devastation the first fifteen minutes suggests.
