Review of Pierrepoint: The Last Hangman (2005) by Jamey B — 25 Oct 2010
Although littered with 'creative licence', errors and stretches of truth this is actually a fairly decent film. Mainly because Tim Spall makes such a good fist of it.
Having read Pierrepoint's autobiog, there are plenty of mistakes in the film, which you wouldn't really know without reading the book. Pierrepoint went about his job with dignified respect, played to perfection by Spall.
A good film, especially if you're intrigued by the dark world of capital punishment and quite thought-provoking.
