Review of Pickpocket (1959) by Jason W — 25 Dec 2009
Disappointing.
Terrible performances ruin what could have been an interesting glimpse into sleight of hand and a man losing his connection to society. The casting was intentional to use non-actors, that doesn't excuse the poor quality of performance.
Michel is a sociopath, only ever ashamed of being caught not for committing crimes. Great sequence on the train doesn't save this wooden film from being anything other than mediocre.
