Loved by Paul Schrader who would use Bressons ending here in three of his own films ,this film achive so much in 70 minutes that some films take over the course of hours could only hope to match.

Bresson stated that the film is not a thriller and to a large extent he is right ,the film is more focused on the weakness of the human condition and how that condition can change a life forever.

By using non actors Bresson gives the film a powerful resonance and its themes never fell fudged or badly handled, and the sequences during the actual thefts use voice over to convey the rush of being able to steal undetected.

Its not a film for all tastes ,some may find the pacing a bit lax ,but once seen you will realise just how good a filmkaer Bresson was.
