Review of Philadelphia (1993) by Michael V — 28 Nov 2011
"Tom Hanks defintitley deserved the Oscar, this was one of his most courageous, touching, inspiring & gutsy performances of his career (Forrest Gump still is his best performance IMO but this was in my top 5).
However, while he got respectfully and deserving attention from the awards people, Denzel Washington had the best performance in the movie, slightly outshining Hanks in this and should have gotten the nod and won.
Mary Steenburgen is nice here in a uncharacteristic role playing the villian here. Philadelphia is a touching, powerful & inspiring film for those have AIDS or who are afraid of it (all of us do lol) though contreversial & slow at times, thanks again for another great movie, Jonathan Demme.
