Review of Philadelphia (1993) by John S — 26 May 2015
Jonathan demme is the master of faces. only he can shoot an entire scene completely in closeup and have it work reasonably well. stylistically the movie is very captivating, but many aspects of this movie have not dated well, since people are much more informed and learned in AID's than in 1993 (i believe).
tom hanks is heartbreaking, denzel washington is amazing, evenmary steenburgen is intimidating in her role. it works both as an effective and provocative courtroom drama as well as a human experience.
