Review of Phenomena (1985) by Kurt A — 25 Mar 2010
This movie is amazing. It's freak'n awesome. I haven't seen a movie this good in a long time.
Here's the jist of it. Teenage heart throb Jennifer Connelly plays ... Jennifer, a famous actor's daughter who is attending a Swiss girls school. Her first night in school is quite eventful as she sleep walks her way out into town and almost gets hit by a car. All the while she is seeing images of a young girl being murdered. She winds up in the home of a famous entomologist who sparks an interest in her connection between herself and insects. It seems our dear Jennifer can communicate with insects telepathically. Soon enough Jennifer finds herself in a sticky situation as her new roommate is killed in the woods right outside of school. When she finds a piece of evidence she sees more than she ever imagined. From there in, it gets awesome!
I have never seen a movie quite like this. It's daring, unique, well written, creative, and brilliantly executed. The musical score is unlike any movie of the genre, tense moments are filled with wonderful arrangements and 80's hair band metal. What else could you ask for?
The thing that impressed me the most with this movie is this. Most movies pussy foot around when it comes time to show who is really behind the madness. Not this movie. I've never seen a movie that under promised and over delivered like Phenomena. Just when you think you can't delve any deeper into the madness. Just when you think it's safe. It's NOT!
Every horror movie fan everywhere should watch this movie TODAY! It's a one of a kind complete package that they just don't make anymore.
