Review of Phase IV (1974) by Jeffrey M — 03 Jul 2008
Exceedingly well-made, intelligent science-fiction from an era when such a thing was rare. Saul Bass was a total visual genius. Some of the characterization here is a bit cornball or one-dimensional, but in the end it works. Gorgeous, creepy as hell (and remarkable not only for its time, but now) insect photography, all cleverly edited together to give the illusion of "performances" by the bugs. Fantastic electronic soundtrack as well.
Would make a great double feature with Silent Running or Dark Star.
