Review of Phantom of the Paradise (1974) by Wayne Z — 30 Aug 2008
A 1970's musical hybrid of the stories of 'FAUST' and 'PHANTOM OF THE OPERA', with plenty of good songs and humour thrown into the mixture. I recall the novel of the film as being quite a bit more racey than the movie version (I'm sure it even had anal sex in it, seriously).
Kudos to Paul Williiams (who used to write songs for Elvis & The Carpenters among others) for the excellent soundtrack (which I also own). A pretty twisted and funny film. Includes an early incarnation of De Palma's split screen device that he would later use to greater effect in Carrie (1976).
