Review of Phantasm (1979) by Phillip H — 03 Nov 2007
The 1979 original has earned a place in my top favorite horror flicks ever, even though it's a real genre bender--a well balanced blend of horror, sci-fi & comedy. The snarling cloaked dwarves look & sound like bloodthirsty Jawas (guns seem to keep the little bastards down since no light sabers are in sight).
The diabolical mortician simply called the Tall Man (Angus Scrimm) almost looks like an Amish who's turned to the dark side & is a superb horror icon. And of course the lethal flying silver spheres that drill into your cranium are killer (figuratively & literally).
