Review of Phantasm (1979) by Hrodland C — 30 Mar 2008
It's definitely original. I enjoyed this quite a bit. The kid, Mike, was actually one of the most intelligent and resourceful characters I've ever seen in a horror film, so bonus points for that. There were some imaginative parts, funny parts and scary parts. Overall, though, it was only alright. If you get a chance to watch it, you should, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.
EDIT: After consideration and much though, I've decided to give this another star. It really DOES hit all the bases of a good 80's B-Movie. What really did it for me was the fact that I'm excited to see the sequels now (there are four, I believe). Not many horror films, if any, have done that for me. Skip Halloween, forget Nightmare on Elm Street and blow Friday the 13th. If you have watch a movie in the same vein, watch Phantasm.
