Review of Peyton Place (1957) by Emily K — 28 Dec 2007
Ok so this movie may seem like nothing to the modern viewer but the scenes it portrays and the subjects it concerns were very taboo at the time. the performances are what you would expect from the 50s but the storyline is not.
Not only do they say the word 'sex' (which in itself was a giant step) they showed it or as much as they could. the rape scene is terrifying and well shot. the characters well developed and the costumes were perfect.
I loved this movie and am planning to read the book. this was the fifties version of the sixties valley of the dolls.
