Review of Peyton Place (1957) by Luca V — 31 Mar 2008
A film about sexual education from the novel by Grace Metalious. I think this pedagogic intent corrupts the story, because you know, all this sexual liberation issue is too pushy. And also the movie is too tragic.
There is the girl raped by her stepfather, the guy who is shy because he is a mum s boy, there is the unmarried mother who conceals her daughter that her father was not this great man but just a promiscuous.
This mother, who is portrayed by Lana Turner (the only big name in the lot), is also reluctant to began a new relationship with the principal of the high school. There is the son of the richest man in the city who is in love with a worker s daughter.
There is this II WW scenery, and all the boyz are going to war. In the final Miss Selena is convicted for the murder of the dirty stepfather, and she risks the death penalty, but she does not want to reveal anything about her abortion and so on.
Then all the other guys, especially the doctor, help her, and unveil the truth and criticize the deviant sense of morality in the little Peyton. Happy ending. Credits.
