Review of Peaceful Warrior (2006) by L L — 15 Jan 2008
Where to begin? This was no where near as good as I thought it'd be (that's a good place). Everything about this movie just felt really cliched and superficial. Nick Nolte felt like a cheap imitation of Mr. Miyagi, spouting off fortune cookie lines of wisdom, making the movie seem more deep than it really is:
"There is no starting or stopping - only doing.".
"Death isn't sad. The sad thing is: most people don't live at all".
"It's the journey, not the destination.".
Really, the entire thing felt like a poorly written modern update of the Karate Kid altogether.
Don't get me wrong, the story has a good message, (and it's something that I can relate to on a very personal level) but the script and writing are far too 'hollywoodized' to have it hold any sort of real lasting value.
