Review of Paths of Glory (1957) by Hans L — 19 May 2008
Kubrick rehearses Full Metal Jacket and explores the futility of the military machine as well as asking: what's the best way to die in war (the film argues soldiers fear pain more than death itself)? Kubrick's disdain for military hierarchy and protocol is palpable in every frame and it just looks so fucking good.
