Review of Paths of Glory (1957) by Amasa G — 21 Oct 2016
I guess I'll say that I liked this movie because it didn't have all of the usual Kubrick foul ups and I didn't like this movie because it didn't have any of the usual Kubrick risks.
This movie is pretty straightforward when it comes to Kubrick and it almost plays a little droll for most of the movie - with very little beauty in the screen and barely three dimensional characters.
Having said that, this is still a watchable movie and makes a lot of interesting points. This is one of the few voices that history hears criticizing actions and techniques of WWI without giving way to the ole "that's just the way things were back then" line.
I'd say it's worth a watch. This is one of those "make up your own mind" movies.
