Review of Paths of Glory (1957) by Dave A — 27 Jun 2008
It's astonishing how many Kubrick fan's haven't even seen this film... As war films of the 50's go, it is unsurpassed. Kubrick pioneered many of his film techniques in this film (eg. long reverse tracking shots).
The plot revolves around French Army's execution of innocent men to frighten others in their resolve to fight. Unfairly perceived as anti-French by some, the film is not intended to be country specific in its observations - it is about the kind of cruel stupidiies which can happen in wars generally.
