Review of Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973) by Chris J — 04 Oct 2007
Dirty, masculine, unappologetic; this could be a description of film or director. But Pekinpah created a film that moves at its own pace and piece of mind, never bowing to the constraints of narrative or convention.
Coburn; magnatism and Kristofferson; verve and charm, are brilliant in their roles as the men on the other ends of the law. The film's only real flaw is Bob Dylan whose songs sometimes extend beyond the chapter points they should be and a performance that leaves a lot to be desired.
