Review of Passion in the Desert (1997) by Luke R — 03 Aug 2008
This picture is the kind of garbage that expects an audience to forgive its complete lack of plausibility, or even essential truth, based on an unspoken claim that it is high art. The concept of this film, in and of itself could be cool, but the film is a complete failure.
The writers and director not only missed the point, but may've been too dense to even realize there was one in Balzac's novella, which bears little resemblance to this self-inflated pile of you know what.
Good cinematograpy, and moments where you think things are about to get interesting, but you'll be disappointed.
