Review of Passengers (2016) by Becky F — 16 Mar 2017
2/5 stars. Yep, there is definitely a reason that this film didn't gross much at the box office. What a dud. The first 30 minutes are pretty good, then after that, after a major plot shift occurs, which I won't spoil, the movie gets somehow both more unbelievable and more boring by the second.
It's a really promising premise that totally falls apart halfway through the film. Though, when I mentioned that Pratt and Lawrence don't really seem to have any romantic chemistry, it did lead to a nice debate with my husband about whether that was a flaw in their acting talent (his opinion) or, rather, something that just can't be faked, no matter how good the rest of one's acting talent may be (my opinion.
).
