Anyone who thinks this is badly acted or over acted has never seen an interview with the real James or the real Michael. Both Mac and Seth do an amazing job of capturing these two and the weird circumstances they found themselves in.
If you find this to be too "weird" try watching the documentary that the movie is based on (also called Party Monster) or read James's book Disco Bloodbath and all will become clear.
