Review of Paris Je T'aime (2006) by Yujie S — 04 Sep 2011
The predecessor of "New York, I Love You", "Paris Je T'aime" (or "Paris, I Love You") from the year 2006, is a mixed bag of short stories, inter-weaved with a common backdrop - the glowing and beautiful city of love - Paris.
18 fables, each describing with subtle artistry a facet of the most mystical emotion - love. Albeit many more facets remain untouched, yet these stories touch upon how we human beings feel, express and treasure this thing called love in so many unique ways.
Starring internationally acclaimed actors like Natalie Portman, Willem Defoe, Juliette Binoche, Steve Buscemi, Bob Hoskins, Nick Nolte, Elijah Wood and a multitude of brilliant French actors, this film is a kaleidoscope - with each segment having a flavor of it's own.
The directors' roster boasts of names like Ethan & Joel Coen, Gurindher Chadha, Gus Van Sant, Alexander Payne, Wes Craven and yet again an amazing group of French directors who show us what French cinema is made of.
If you haven't seen this film yet, you should (don't forget the subtitles, unless you are proficient with la langue française). Though it's a bit hard to say what you fall more in love with - love itself or Paris. :-).
And for those wanting more, there's Rio, Jerusalem and Shanghai coming up in the "Cities Of Love" series. ;-).
