Review of Papillon (1973) by Marco F — 12 Oct 2010
Difficult to watch, grim and brutal, PAPILLON is one of the best prison dramas ever. It is a beautifully shot film and it is supremely well edited, yet it seems to wonder off course in the third act, but it does recover itself.
This violent movie also has great performances by the entire cast, a beautiful score by Jerry Goldsmith and great direction by Franklin Schaffner. It's too violent and has too much nudity for a "PG" rating, yet it was originally rated "R". Wonder why they changed it....
