Review of Paper Towns (2015) by Lucy M — 25 Aug 2015
If you're over the age of 16 I really wouldn't recommend this film, but for younger adolescent audiences it's pretty perfect. After absolutely adoring The Fault in our Stars, with it's wonderful characters, tragic love story and oddly uplifting message, I was disappointed with how basic and unfulfilling the whole plot of the film is.
I also feel like it tries to provide a deep message concerning the meaning of life and the experiences of growing of age with its anti-climatic conclusion, but, for me, it totally misses the mark and falls flat.
I also the majority of characters annoying, as they were all high school stereotypes, so I never really cared about what happened to them or whether they'd achieve their goal. The only positive thing about this film was Cara Delevingne's performance, as while I wasn't a fan of Margo as a character, I felt she captured the wild, impulsive nature that was intended for the character perfectly.
