Review of Paper Towns (2015) by Ryan K — 21 Oct 2015
The trouble here is the script focuses too much on doing a beat-for-beat plot synopsis instead of spending time with the characters. As a result, nothing feels earned and despite the talented young cast (and Cara Delevingne, who isn't bad but as suspected is totally miscast and doesn't have the chops to make something out of the script's one-note rendition of the character.
It whizzes by and you just sit there like, "Ok now they're on a road trip. Ok now they're at their destination that was quick." There's some nice character work toward the end but it's too little too late and not even Nat Wolff's lovable smirking face can save this clunky soulless adaptation of a pretty damn good book.
