Review of Paper Towns (2015) by Red Rush F — 07 Aug 2015
I think I see why this, while being his first, wasn't John Green's first book adapted to screen. Everything on screen is perfectly fine -- the acting, the visuals, etc -- but the story itself kind of meanders, and although the title is explained it only loosely fits the narrative.
It moves from being a teenage mischief film, to a mystery plot, to a roadtrip of self-discovery, and doesn't quite come together. That said, I did appreciate that it avoided a couple of cliches I thought I saw coming, even if it does fall back on some others, and it has its charms.
