Review of Panic Room (2002) by Stevan L — 30 Aug 2009
IMO, Panic Room fits in well between The Game & Fight Club because it is a much better effort (more established) than The Game but a few ringers below the ambitious Fight Club. I just loved the opening shots with the 3-D opening title - Fincher has almost made the opening sequences as his trademark (see Se7ven & Fight Club). Loved the Hitchcockian overtones and I thought that the villains were well casted, especially Dwight Yoakam as Raoul to continue his great performance from Slingblade.
Indeed the movie has a simple premise and thus is open to criticism but contrary to many opinions, the movie did not have that many plot holes than one may think.
Although Panic Room was not one of Fincher's best work (Se7ven has that honour, IMHO), it will be used as my benchmark for movies(Thrillers) in 2002.
