Don't listen to others!
I don't know what kind of expectations people had with this movie, but if you go in looking for a fun movie about giant robots, you will not be disappointed. The fights are cool, the story actually has some surprising twists, and the characters are totally fine.
People seem to have this weird impression that the original Pacific Rim was anything but a cheesy robot vs monster movie. I honestly believe that Uprising lives up to the standards of the original.
