Review of P2 (2007) by Lindsay Elizabeth M — 29 May 2010
The only thing more terrifying than being alone is discovering that you're not.
What a mess. I thought that this film would become a real thrill, but by the end of it all I was a bit setback. First off, Wes Bentley does NOT fit the bill as a demented, crazed, obsessed psychopath. Yes, his facial expressions do fit the emotions of the moment, but he looks too attractive (even reminding me of Joaquin Phoenix at times) to be the character he is portraying. Some might say that it is a lesson to all females out there to keep an open mind; sometimes even the most handsome of men can turn out to be a heartless killer. Surrre. Rachel Nichols is also annoying, and I seem to prefer Bentley over her. I think the main reason why audiences continue to watch this film is because of the presence of her cleavage. As for Simon Reynolds.. well, I only saw him as a blathering officemate to Nichol's character, so I can't say much about the man.
Had you going there, didn't I? :))) I don't particularly hate this film, as it does have a few moments where you can't help but silently hope that Nichols' Angela comes out of the ordeal alive. Plus her revenge on Bentley's Thomas was well owned. My only concern was that it wasn't good enough (well, at least for me) to earn more than 5 viewings. That makes all the difference to me.
Angela (Nichols) is an ambitious, hard-working associate in New York, who has a tendency of skivving off family reunions and gatherings just to submit reports and other office requirements. Now, she has made a solemn promise to her family that she will NOT miss their Christmas dinner no matter what. However, while on her way to her car, she discovers that the engine won't start, and despite the help from the night guard, Thomas (Bentley), it remains a useless scrap of heap. Angela calls a taxi, but when it arrives, she finds the front door locked. In her frustration, she heads back to the parking lot, where she is suddenly accosted by Thomas, who changes her into a silky white dress and binds her ankle to prevent her from escaping. Angela must find a way to escape her captor, who shows himself to be a crazed obsessed maniac who will do anything just to keep her with him.
