Review of P2 (2007) by Robert I — 18 Jan 2013
I was surprised by this flick as I didn't expect much out of it, and then a friend of mine told me he had really enjoyed it and I decided to give it a shot. What I found was a pretty simple low budget horror film that ends up being relatively fun.
And is really bolstered by a great villain performance from Wes Bentley. Hadn't really been that impressed by him since his strong turn as the eccentric videographer teen in "American Beauty", but in this he plays a guy who on the onset seems like a likeable guy, so much so you're a little bummed when its clear hes demented.
He then goes through the rest of the film figuratively "killing with kindness", much to the horror of Rachel Nichols (who has a simpler role as the tortured heroine but does fine in the role).
The death scenes are few and far between, but when they come they are pretty brutal and crazy, and the suspense between the two leads works for most of the film. Theres also a quirky sense of humor at moments that adds to the film as well, especially after some of the real intense moments.
Not a destined classic of the genre, but it is fun and there is something to be said for that.
