Review of Outland (1981) by Daniel F — 25 Jun 2010
Outland...The movie that could have been interesting with a good mystery and big heart but later turned into a two dimensional cat and mouse game and the cats are wearing blind folds.
The main problem for me with this film is the fact that the mystery was revealed far too early. At that certain point it degrades and falters into predictability. Its a slow moving film with yes little energy and I'm just going to say it if Sean Connery did something about the situation midway in, it would have resolved the plot, but no it dragged on and on which is strange because its actually quite short film in its length. This obvious lack of judgment on his part makes you in a way dislike his character and feel like the script was sloppily written.
The big climax literally takes place in 2 or 3 hallways and felt like they were in there for half the film! and if everybody was on the (Spoiler Alert!) drugs and wanted them why did nobody but a few thugs try and stop him? why not say most if not all the workers? the workers where just looking at him almost in a state of worry, what? that doesn't fit.
It was too bad to the beginning had such great potential and spun out of control into this.
