Review of Out of Africa (1985) by Ibraheem M — 04 May 2014
With all the accolades this film has garnered, I must say that I was a little disappointed. The sweeping vistas and Meryl Streep are beautiful, but it does plod along in places and I often couldn't feel much of a connection to the characters.
It's as if it just skims along the surface, leaving me cold. And the tang of colonialism and complicit patronizing tone with its character's outdated mindsets is hard to get over.
