Review of Origin: Spirits of the Past (2006) by Ariuza K — 20 Jan 2011
Studio Gonzo's first attempt at a large scale "Anime" with such a creative idea shattered into a million pieces and this time no one can put it together. First of all I don't get into "Anime" But I do get into Post-apocalyptic movie so I was sure to have a look, personally one of my all time favorite movies is the Italian Epic "2019: After the Fall of New York" so I was bound to check this out. And it failed once again the idea was just all wrong and stealing other peoples stuff and sticking it into an uncreative story just doesn't work Okay.
So 300 years into the future and forests (Like machines) have become smarter then people and they wish to be the leading race to overthrow the earth. And water is becoming more scares then anything, The world balance is tipped when a young boy named Agito stumbles across a machine that glowed in a strange blue hue inside a forbidden sanctuary. The machine, which has preserved a beautiful girl named Tula from the past, is activated. Tula has a "mission" that had been entrusted to her by the past...
First of all the story was shit confusing unfocussed to what is was meant to be doing and telling. Like I said there just stealing idea's from others films to put into there screen play even using obscure live action films. But has anyone but me seen that if the trees are dominating the earth? How are they living without water?
You know that stunning artwork with the two people standing in front of a ruined Building? Yeah that came from a movie by "Enzo G. Castellari" called the "1990 Bronx warriors". Just another example of what they stole. But they just stuck in reverse.
The voice dubbing in the film is okay when it comes to synch of course but the voice stars are horrible. I mean they so sound different to what there character should be like right?
Besides are mysterious lead the characters are bad with no read detail on them, Before I enjoy a movie or watching one I like to know a bit about them and also besides how bad they look.
And the animation is just shit awful nothing but the overuse of CGI on traditional animated people which just rapes the film. I like the Studio Ghibli backgrounds and animation nothing but epic traditional stuff with spirit to it. I like to see real hard worked on backgrounds rather then this stupid CGI shit.
I once saw Stunning backgrounds to the studio Ghibli short Iblard Time with nothing but 30 minutes of fantasy scenery that looked nothing short of inspiraring unlike this movie.
The music was okay at best nothing really good though, I rather just re-edit the movie and stick "Metallica" sound tracks on it at least something would be good.
So I close and say waste of money and time and stay the heel away form this piece of shit.
