Review of Orca (1977) by Brad G — 29 Oct 2009
Wowâ?¦Orca The Killer Whale is better than I thoughtâ??pure silly genius. Dino De Laurentiis saw the success of JAWS just two years earlier, gathered a bunch of Italian movie producer friends, the director of Loganâ??s Run, and the crazed Richard Harris and filmed this ridiculous animal revenge flick.
And for a PG flick, you really get a bang fer yer buck. I think the scene where Harris & Co first accidently kill the female killer whale and the fetus pops out (!!!!) would have sent a younger version of myself into a terror coma.
Ennio Morriconeâ??s score lends an otherworldly quality to the whole piece, especially in the final mano a mammalo climax in the arctic (those sets are fantastic). Dig those supporting turns from Bo Derek, Will Sampson, Charlotte Rampling, and Robert Carradine.
Not VF.
