Review of Opera (1987) by James H — 30 Dec 2009
One of Argento's more technically brilliant films, Opera contains some truly remarkable camerawork and cinematography. However, Opera is also one of Argento's least interesting mysteries. Also, the characters in this film make some of the most irrational decisions I've seen in horror movies this side of the later Friday the 13th films.
Though the murders are tense and suspenseful (one character's death is one of Argento's best), there's not enough going for it to be classified with Deep Red or Tenebre. Finally, note the similarities between the end of Opera and the novel (and 2002 adaptation) Red Dragon.
