Review of Open Range (2003) by Finbarr F — 20 Jan 2010
#5 of the Decade: OPEN RANGE.
One of the great highlights of the last decade was Kevin Costner's grossly underrated epic Western, Open Range. Costner, Duvall, Bening and Michael Jeter are all tremendous as the noble underdogs that stand up to the corrupt land baron, played by Harry Potter's Michael Gambon. The script is amazingly tight, and it veers away from many of the cliches found in most Westerns. An original and honest jolt to a dying genre.
