Review of Open Range (2003) by Viginti T — 06 Aug 2009
A well told hybrid of the golden era westerns of old and the contemporary revisionist westerns. The characters are well written and performed, the plot interesting in it's small scale and realism and the direction superbly realised especially during the showdowns, this films only flaw is that it isn't quite as revolutionary as it should be.
It works well as a simple story but look any deeper and it becomes clear that it lacks the punch and originality of Eastwood's Unforgiven.
