Refn is easily one of the most pretentious of all modern filmmakers. I knew that coming into this film. I quite enjoyed Drive when it came out recently, it took a few views to cement that feeling for me.
Even knowing that, it is obvious that Refn's filmmaking approach is one that shouts "Look at me, see how cool I can do this. Watch me break the rules." This film is no exception. It's boring, disgusting and downright cringeworthy.
It doesn't even deserve a proper ending to this review.
