Review of Only God Forgives (2013) by Tim W — 03 Dec 2013
Grim and hypnotic ultra violent cinema. Art house cinema has always intrigued me, one can become so easily immersed in art house due to it's spectacular cinematography and amazing symbolism. If you're a fan of art house and breath taking cinematography this is the movie for you.
However do not expect a lot of dialogue, remember Nicholas Winding Refn heavily relies on cinematography in order to move his narratives forward. In my opinion both Drive is his visually impeccable masterpiece, Only God Forgives does have its cinematic moments, when these moments are coupled with yet another applaudable score from Cliff Martinez the movie becomes a truly haunting and memorable macabre experience.
