Review of Only God Forgives (2013) by Ioan M — 18 Jan 2014
Some such as Claire will find this 90 minutes of utter tedium. Whilst not a masterpiece, I found it breathtaking and stunning; if not quite having the soul of Drive.
The director is clearly in love with Gosling, and it is stunning to look at. Pause it throughout and it could be an art painting every time. The Oedipal Coriolanus tale actually briefly provides some sense of a plot.
But so many act without motive but kept me entranced. If anything I would have liked a bit more ambiguity, especially in a key scene near the end with the child.
It's a Marmite movie but only 90 minutes, so whatya got to lose.....
