I'd hardly say that playing a character that is both creepy and unfunny is much of a departure for Robin Williams. Indeed, it's difficult to distinguish between where Williams' characters find themselves on a moral compass as they are all equally irritating (Sy The Photo Guy is arguably more likeable than Patch Adams and Mork.).

One Hour Photo is nothing more than a vehicle for Williams to play a psychopath, a role he had more success in playing in Insomnia. If you have to watch Williams, watch Insomnia.
