Review of One from the Heart (1982) by Thomas M — 02 Apr 2010
Visually arresting. But as a whole is nothing more than self indulgant crap. Francis Ford Coppola, who invested every last penny he had into "Apocalypse Now" and beat the odds, tries the impossible again.
But unfortunately there is a bigger audience for loud action movies than there are for artificial tarty romance movies and he wound up spending over 50 million of his own money (everything he had) on a movie with no bankable stars (not a big deal to me but when your spending thaaaat kind of money from your own pocket.
......) and the movie only made 550,000 dollars!!!! This ruined the career of a once great director. After this he was forced into director for hire work like "Jack" and "The Godfather: part 3".
It just goes to show that, if you want to make what you want, you gotta sell out and get the clout to do so. I havn't talked about the movie because frankly its a bore and quite forgettable. The Tom Waits score is even pretty lousy.
