Review of Ondine (2010) by Jojo E — 27 May 2010
Colin Farrell's understated performance is a delight to watch and pulls you into the brilliant little fairy tale the director (Jordan) has crafted. Though the tale is a bit understated, the movie is less about outright entertainment on a visceral level and more about telling a tale of redemption, eros (romantic love) and love for ones family and friends.
Understandably, the twist ending may have shocked and upset many viewers after they are brought back from an ethereal fairy tale back into a harsh reality, but after rewatching the film, I found that I could still get lost in the hope and wonder that the fairy tale provided the first time around.
Despite some flaws, the film is overall a brilliant one of hope, love, trust and life.
