Review of Ondine (2010) by Scott K — 22 Jan 2011
I liked that this movie just dived right in to the story. From the beginning it feels like some modern Irish fairy tale. The cast is wonderful, in particular the little girl who plays Annie. The story keeps an air of mystery until the end and is contrasted against some real world issues like Annie's sickness, and Syracuse's past drinking.
Some scenes were overly dark so I couldn't see all that was going on, and the Romanian guy's accent was too thick for me to understand what he said in the hospital to Ondine. So some moments left me a little confused, but I was caught up by the end.
Overall I liked the wondrous feeling of this film and its modernization of a mythical tale. I felt satisfied when it was over, and that isnt something easily said about many current films.
