Review of On the Waterfront (1954) by Caroline R — 10 Mar 2009
This film changed my life. I have no idea why. The subject matter isn't normally my thing and Brando had never caught my attention previously. Something about it though... Sophomore year I signed up for History of Sound Film.
It was my first film class. We watched this a couple weeks in. I don't think anyone in my class cared what was on the screen - most of them were asleep. But I saw this movie. I had prickles up and down my skin.
I was mesmerized. By the end of it, I thought I would explode with excited energy. I think I decided then and there. I had to study film.
