Review of On the Waterfront (1954) by Elizabeth B — 01 Jan 2011
Still one of the best films ever made. The tale of a man who finds the courage to be good. Brando brilliant as the rough docker, caught in world of corrupt union bosses who is dealing with an awakening conscience.
Terrific fury from Lee J Cobb. Eve Marie Saint's raw innocence combined with great emotional drive. Bernstein's powerful score. Kazan's sublime direction. In all, a timeless study of redemption.
