Review of On the Waterfront (1954) by Lord N — 25 Apr 2010
Marlon Brand's first win for Best Actor with this film is just as deserving as his Best Actor win for The Godfather (which he declined unfortunately). I really really liked this film. it was a powerful analogy of one of our most shameful moments as a nation: McCarthyism.
To strengthen the connection the screenplay writer was blacklisted. The acting is absolutely amazing, the screenplay is Phenomenal "You don't understand. I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender.
I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am, let's face it. It was you, Charley." wow. pure brilliance. I rank this as one of the best Best Picture winners ,and one of the best films, that has ever been made.
it was an absolutely perfect film. I defy anyone to say otherwise. Final Verdict: Right on. a perfect film and a perfect choice for Best Picture.
