Review of On the Waterfront (1954) by Alex K — 16 Nov 2012
A good film. But it's really Brando's film. Without him, it wouldn't be the same. Brando does a magnificent job, and the praise toward this performance is well worth it. The rest of the film, including the direction, script, and the rest of the cast, are very able and do a very good job.
My only real complaint is that the music was a bit much in some scenes. It was pretty much on the mark, but sometimes I felt it took away from the emotion of the scene. But it's a small gripe. On a side note, the contender speech is absolutely phenomenal, and easily the best scene in the film.
As I said before, this is Brando's film, and without him, it would be still be good, but not as classic.
