Review of On the Waterfront (1954) by Michael C — 12 Jan 2009
This film feels like the bridge between the glorious days of Frank Capra's films and the renaissance experienced in film by the New Hollywood movement. It has the heart and pursuit of decency that Capra always exemplified, and yet it suggested the dark, gritty, and more realistic style of film that would soon arrive and change cinema indefinitely.
Brando is astounding as Terry Malloy, and the overall craft of the field is superb.
