Review of On the Town (1949) by Nikkie M — 09 Jan 2009
Excellent musical! Not as charming as Kelly's "Singing in the Rain" but still worth a watch. Gene Kelly is my favourite classic actor and this time he teams up with Frank Sinatra and Jules Munshin as young sailor boys from the navy. I've never seen Sinatra in action before and it is a real pleasure. I loved the different settings that Kelly and Donen experimented with. My favourite set was all the restuarant reviews. same restuarant... different theme. Only in in a classic could you pull that off.
Over all is just a wonderful movie and I recommend it.
